Every year you can feel the excitement in our area when summer is approaching. With so much to do in Northern Minnesota during those 3 months, it’s hard to fit everything in. Add on top of that that we are a tourist area, it makes summer even more important for the businesses that thrive on the population change. Crow Wing County has continued to grow at a steady rate over the years. Since 1970 there has been an increase of almost 60% with a projection of another 45% growth by 2030. The last census had the county’s population at 65,220. With that being said, When summer creeps upon us and it is estimated that our population increases to nearly 3 to 4 times that number during the next few months. With the many lakes, forests, and activities throughout the summer, it is no wonder! Unfortunately for many of us that live here, we aren’t able to enjoy the wonders like the vacationers’ can and we are often searching for things to do.
Of course, there is always the options up here to hit the beach, jump on the boat, take a hike through the woods, get the golf clubs out or just explore. For those that need a little more direction, there is plenty to find going on from June through August. With endless adventures in our area for both locals and visitors, I’ve found that one of the best resources for finding these activities is to visit http://www.explorebrainerdlakes.com and check out their events tab. You can narrow it to a date, week, or month. You’ll be able to find fishing tournaments, the annual Arts in the Park, 4th of July activities, Lakes Jam, Farmers Markets, races at Brainerd International Raceway, countless camps for children of all ages, Crow Wing County Fair, and the list goes on!
Maybe you need to plan out some summer adventures. How about taking a zip line tour with miles of views of this beautiful area? Brainerd Zip Line Tour has a guided eco-tour of the area featuring 7 zip lines, 15-mile views, a suspension bridge and a 50′ free fall ~ an experience for the thrill seekers! Or if you’d like to get out on the water with a pedal pub, look no further. The Up North Cruise is a 31-foot pontoon that is pedal powered and can fit up to 16 people. Grab your coolers, snacks and get ready to pedal! Could be you just like the good old traditional events that we have all come to know and love. A day or evening out at The Farm on St Mathias. A working family farm that has created a bridge between art and agriculture; from strawberry picking to camping to unique bands, there is something for everyone. Perhaps you like the races but not the crowds at BIR, then North Central Speedway is your place, they have races every Saturday night from April through October. This is entertainment for all ages on the 1/3 of a mile dirt track. Be ready to return home a little “dustier” than you may have expected!
Whether you’re ready for a family adventure or something a little more adult geared, there is no doubt that you’ll be able to find that in the Brainerd Lakes Area!
